According to a study featured on Science Daily, eating healthily may lower your risk of developing severe depression.

Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland conducted a food survey on 2,000 middle-aged men and compared the results with information on cases of depression from the National Hospital Discharge Register. The participants were followed-up for 13 to 20 years.

The researchers discovered that a good balance of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, berries, poultry, fish, low-fat dairy products, and lean meat and liver lowered the risk of depression in the participants. Folate, which is found in the said food selection, has also been associated with better psychological health. On the other hand, a diet consisting of junk food, high levels of sugar, and processed meats has been linked to higher depression risk.

So instead of munching on unhealthy snacks, go for good and yummy alternatives. Investing in your health may help you feel and stay positive.
