Doesn't the headline cause you to just jump for joy? According to a study published in the Journal of International Society of Sports Medicine, it was discovered that dark chocolate amps up the body's abilities during a workout sesh.

Nine cyclists were required to consume 1.4 ounces of chocolate daily for two weeks. Half were given white chocolate, and the other half, the dark variety. Those who ate dark choco performed better and used less oxygen compared to those who had white chocolate. Plus, they were able to bike an extra tenth of a mile. Although the difference isn't that huge, it's still good news because who doesn't love the idea of eating chocolates and getting fit at the same time?

How does this small brown square of joy help the body? In the study, it was found that dark chocolate increased the amount of nitric oxide—and athletes have been looking into ways of boosting their nitric oxide levels by taking in supplements. When the nitric oxide levels are up, it causes an improvement in blood flow and cardio performance.

But before you down a bar of dark chocolate before a moderate intensity exercise, please note that there hasn't been a study recommending the ideal amount of cocoa dose. You can indulge, but do it with caution.
