Everyone knows how difficult it is to get back in shape, and though you’re determined to shed those pounds, there will be instances wherein you just feel like quitting. Here are five things you can do to help you stay on track.
Create visual goals.
Remember that dress that used to fit you? Take it out and hang it right where you can see it. According to Christopher Warden, a personal trainer in New York City, pulling it out of the closet serves as a visual reminder of the goal they're trying to accomplish.
Join an exercise class.
Whether that’s a Zumba or Yoga class every weekend, meeting up with people who share the same goal as you is a big motivator. Plus, making a new set of friends is something to look forward to!
Take notes of your progress.
Aside from having a visual reminder of your goal, it’s also important to write down your progress. This way, you’ll see how far you’ve gone. It can serve as your inspiration to keep on moving forward to become a better and healthier you.
Celebrate every achievement.
Bonnie Goodman, a psychotherapist based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who specializes in behavioural therapy says that rewards reinforce positive behavior–but only if they're meaningful. "When you reach a milestone in your weight-loss or exercise routine, treat yourself to something that celebrates the particular goal you achieved and helps further your progress."
Look for a fitness buddy.
Whether that’s your sister, a friend, or your colleague, having a fitness buddy makes it easier for you not to slack off. Since someone is accountable for your consistency, you’re less likely to skip your usual fitness routine.
