Each relationship is unique, and while the line between happiness and unhappiness isn't always clear, the difference between a good relationship and a bad one is a little more definite. But however certain you may be of the latter, it doesn't always make leaving any easier, does it?


According to a new study published in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, people tend to stay in bad relationships because they’re afraid to be alone. Research found that about 40 percent of the 153 participants of their survey said that they fear not having a long-term partner in life, while seven percent said they would feel worthless if they’re on their own.

When it comes to dealing with fights with your man, especially for the repetitive issues, always ask yourself if you're trying to make amends because of love and a true belief that you can resolve your issues, or if it's because you fear being alone. Remember, there’s a big difference between “making it work” and simply “settling” and sadly, only a few notice because they’re too focused on maintaining the relationship.

“During relationship initiation and maintenance, those who fear being single may prioritize relationship status above relationship quality, settling for less responsive and less attractive partners and remaining in relationships that are less satisfying,” says the authors of the study.


Girl, if you’re unhappy with your current relationship or you just want to be free of an emotionally unhealthy situation, then let go; life is too short to stay in a relationship that’s not bound to improve over time. Never forget that there’s nothing wrong with being single, in fact, it can be one of the best times of your life since it will be the time where you get to try things you have never done before. The possibilities are endless, like exploring the world solo or investing in that one hobby that makes you truly happy.
