breast_cancer_not_just_in_lump_form.jpgDo you do regular self-exams on your breasts, FNites? Make sure you do more than just look for the presence of lumps. A Health.com article reminds readers that breast cancer doesn't just manifest in that form.

While it is true that finding a lump could signify that someone has breast cancer, there are other things you should also watch for. Here they are as listed on Health.com:

  • swelling
  • skin irritation or dimpling
  • breast or nipple pain
  • nipple turning inward
  • redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin
  • discharge that's not breast milk

Health.com also mentions that, sometimes, underarm lymph nodes can swell and get affected first before a visible lump forms in the breast. Keep this information in mind the next time you self-examine your breasts. While exhibiting any of these signs doesn't automatically mean you have breast cancer, it's best to consult a doctor immediately so that you can find out for sure. Remember that early detection is one of the most important keys to surviving breast cancer.
