A proper diet may help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid cardiovascular diseases. but a recent study featured on Science Daily reports that it may also help reduce your chances of developing pancreatic cancer.

To measure the effectiveness of proper diet in lowering pancreatic cancer risk, researchers led by Hannah Arem from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda used the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans to calculate the Healthy Eating Index (HEI-2005, the measure of diet quality in accordance with the federal guidelines) scores of 537, 218 participants.

Based on the results, there is a 15 percent lower pancreatic cancer risk in individuals who had high HEI-2005 scores compared with those who had low scores.
