Lack of sleep can cause you to gain weight. Since you’re low on energy, your body looks for sources of it, oftentimes in the wrong places (e.g. a bag of chips, a slice of cake, et al). 3. You’re stressed.
People who are stressed tend to eat more types of food that contain refined sugar, which results in insulin spikes that release hormones called serotonin. A rush of seratonin will make you feel better, but once you crash, you’ll tend to look for more sweets. This vicious cycle can cause you to gain weight.
4. Your exercise routine needs tweaking.
Doing a lot of cardio exercises is great, but you’ll need to balance it out by doing a bit of weight training if you want to lose those bulges. Building muscle burns a lot of calories, so the more toned your muscles are, the more you’ll keep those pounds away.
5. You’re not eating the right kind of the right fats.
That bag of chicharon doesn’t only settle around your waistline—it also settles around your heart as visceral fat! Visceral fat’s main job is to cushion organs, but the more you consume cholesterol, the more it builds up, and this may pressure your organs like your heart and eventually cause dangerous health issues.
Instead of consuming too much fat from meat and dairy products, try eating more of the good fats, which include omega-3 found in fatty fish and nuts. According to Mayo Clinic, omega-3 fatty acids can lower the risk of heart disease.
