In one of the most shocking news events of 2010, the Supreme Court acquitted Hubert Webb, previously convicted for the infamous Vizconde massacre, of the crime he was accused of. In 1991, Estrelita Vizocnde and her daughters, Carmela and Jennifer were found raped and murdered in their home. Hubert Webb, son of former Senator Freddie Webb, along with five other accomplices, was tagged as a suspect and convicted in January 2000. The acquittal had Mr. Lauro Vizconde, husband and father of the victims saying, "Ito ang pangalawang kamatayan ng aking pamilya."

However, a report from Philstar.com states that "the SC clarified yesterday that its ruling, which stated that the guilt of Webb and his co-accused was not established beyond reasonable doubt during trial, does not necessarily mean they are innocent."

These developments have had the Department of Justice considering the option of reopening the Vizconde case, in the hope of finally solving the nearly 20-year-old crime.
