Under former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “holiday economics law,” next Monday, August 23, should have been a holiday. Republic Act 9492 allowed non-religious holidays to be moved the Monday directly after in an effort to boost local tourism during the long weekends; and since the death anniversary of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino falls on August 21, Saturday, most Pinoys assumed that the holiday economics law would apply.

However, Malacañang announced last week that Ninoy Aquino Day would be celebrated on its actual date, and that the Monday after it would be retained as a regular working day, this Philstar.com article reports. That means no three-day weekend for any of us!
