Raymart Santiago has submitted a 22-page counter-affidavit against the accusations hurled against him by his estranged wife Claudine Barretto.
PEP.ph reports that the counter-affidavit included photos showing bruises on various parts of Raymart’s body, hoping to prove that, contrary to what Claudine had alleged, he was the one who suffered from physical violence from his wife. Raymart’s evidence also contains sworn statements from Claudine’s siblings, Gretchen, Marjorie, and J.J.
In his interview with GMA News, Raymart had explained that the whole debacle had deeply affected him.
"Sa totoo lang, malungkot ako dahil kailangan pang lumabas ang lahat ng ito. Kagaya ng sinabi ko, hindi ko ginustong ilabas ito. Pero 'ganun sila, e, marami silang 'nilalabas," he said, referring to Claudine’s camp. "Kailangan ko lang din sumagot. Siguro para din sa mga anak ko, para malaman nila ang totoo (To be honest, I’m sad because this had to come out. Like I said, I never wanted this to reveal this. But they had already revealed a lot of things. I had to respond. Maybe it’s also for my children, so they will know the truth.)."
However, Claudine’s lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, merely brushed off Raymart’s claims, saying that his client can’t possibly have caused him such harm.
"For one, Mr. Santiago is a martial arts expert and an action star, so it is difficult to believe how a person of my client's diminutive physique can cause him the injuries he claims. Second, it is a cheap attempt to muddle the issue as to whether or not he inflicted physical, emotional, psychological, and economic abuse upon Ms. Barretto," he had said in a statement.
