It seems like Catriona Gray’s Miss Universe journey had been years in the making, as she reveals in the post-pageant press conference that her mom had dreamt of the moment of her win.
“When I was 13 years old, my mother told me that ‘I had a dream that you were in Miss Universe and you won in a red dress,’” she shared. “When I saw her earlier she said, ‘I dreamed this!’ And she had tears in her eyes.”
She also mentioned the same story in her first Instagram post after her coronation. “At that time I thought nothing of it, and today my mother's dream came true.”
She also mentioned in a separate interview that one of the first things she had wanted to do after the pageant was to hug her parents, who were overjoyed about her bagging the title.
Catriona was born Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray to Bicolana Normita Ragas Magnayon and Scottish-born Australian Ian Gray. Spending her early years in Queensland, she moved to the Philippines after high school to work as a singer and a model.
Catriona is the fourth Filipina to become Miss Universe.
