Whether that’s a bad breakup or you two simply realized you were not meant to be, getting over someone is easier said than done. Here’s what you should keep in mind to help you move on.

It’s not the end of the world.
The pain you’re feeling right now is temporary. It’s normal to feel sad to the point of locking yourself up in your room and staying in bed for a few days. You’re hurting, and that pain is part of the healing process. Don’t be afraid to let all your emotions out. Cry all day if you want to, but always remember that the misery you’re going through right now is not forever. Yes, #WalangForever is also applicable to heartbreaks.

Stop stalking his social media accounts.
If you’ve just gotten out of a relationship, it’s best to stay away from all sorts of social media for now. Stalking his profile (or even liking his photos!) won’t do you or him any good. Stop scrolling and torturing yourself! You could also try cutting off all forms of communication with him—you need to purge him from your system.

Forget the what-ifs.
At the end of each relationship, you may find yourself thinking of the what-ifs. Mostlly it has something to do with regret—something you could have done to make the relationship better.

Psychotherapist, writer, and mother, Mary Montero says that “the key is striking a balance between proactively dealing with them and distracting yourself from them.” She suggests that you talk to a friend, a family member or a support group about it so that you’ll know how to handle your thoughts instead of dwelling in them.

You will definitely meet someone new.
You’ll probably be scared to open your heart again once you’ve experienced the pain of a heartbreak, but don’t wave the white flag yet! Just because you and your ex didn’t work out doesn't mean that true love isn't real, and that your next relationships will also fail.

That said, we're not prodding you to meet guys, ASAP. Being wooed by guys can surely make you feel better, but this just acts like a bandage—the pain is still there. Have faith with the idea of love, but let your heart heal first. If you are broken, most likely you'll atttract broken guys, too. Give your heart a rest, so you can be the best version of yourself when you meet the next guy who’ll sweep you off of your feet.

See it as a lesson learned.
They say that not everyone is meant to stay in your lifeand those who leave (unintentionally or not) are people who were destined to make a mark on our lives by teaching us a life lesson. Instead of wallowing in self-pity because you were dumped (or you got rejected), take it as a challenge to love and get to know yourself more. To further help you in moving forward, we compiled a simple guideline to get over a breakup like a mature adult.
