The parents' role in their child's education goes beyond extending financial help. "Parents are not only there to pay for the school fees," says Romina Santayana, a guidance counselor and teacher at the Immaculate Conception Academy. "More importantly, they should supervise the growth and development of the child."

Parents can help their kids become excellent students in a number of ways. According to Marison Dy, PhD, a professor at the Department of Human Family and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, a child should "be in an environment that is cognitively stimulating and will appeal to his curious nature."
