Though just a tiny bit of a dot north of Mindanao, Camiguin is home to seven, yes, seven volcanoes—most of them active. While the thought of living near a volcano is quite terrifying, the locals do not seem to mind at all. They treat the volcanoes as they would a next-door neighbor, constant and ever-present.

Yet, the volcanoes just add to the island’s mystique. They give Camiguin a kind of wild, dangerous tinge that attracts tourists. Still, there is nothing dangerous about Camiguin. The people are friendly and the island virtually unexploited. If you want to take things slow, this is the place to be.
