Having pink sofas is not exactly a bad thing—unless you’ve been looking at them for 18 years, like the couple who owned the living room chosen for this makeover had been. The living room didn’t look bad—the floors were tiled well, the walls had a decent coat of paint, and the furniture (the sofas, wooden tables, and shelves) were still in good condition.

But for the room in which the family spent the most time together, a little life and character was in order.

Enter designer Joby Belmonte. He was given a tight budget, which meant that he couldn’t afford to replaced the sofas, so instead, he used the sofas as a starting point for a design that would invigorate the living room.
