Ever wondered how actress Judy Ann Santos lost her baby weight? At the launch for Johnson’s Baby Milk Bath, Juday revealed that she had lost 27 pounds to date, and part of her secret was the Cohen Diet. Although she doesn’t endorse it, Juday mentioned in a previous interview that she still highly recommends the program.
“Natutuwa lang po ako, bilang nagpapapayat, gusto ko ring makatulong sa iba na gusto mag-reduce ng weight. For health reasons din, na it's really a good diet. Nakaplataporma siya sa blood type mo. Hindi ka magdidiyeta na parang nahihilo-hilo ka (I’m just enthusiastic about [the Cohen Program]. Since I’m dieting, I also want to help other people who want to lose weight. It’s also a really good diet for health reasons. It’s based on your blood type. This isn’t the kind of diet that makes you woozy from hunger)," she is quoted as saying on PEP.ph.

WHAT IS THE COHEN PROGRAM?
The Cohen Program is becoming more and more popular in the country nowadays as people see it as an effective way of losing weight. According to Barbara Young, CEO of Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre Philippines, it is a weight-loss program specially designed to correct hormonal imbalance—and the best part is that it just uses food (and nothing else) to do the job.
“Food is the only thing you take. There are no injections, diet pills, meal replacements, or special foods, simply the food already in your kitchen,” explains Young. “It is not a calorie-based diet, and you do not have to starve yourself on the program. You may eat all types of food on the program, including various types of red/white meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and dairy products such as cheese and yogurt.”
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Dr. Rami Cohen, its proponent, made the program based on his research on the hormones that control obesity and weight loss. These three main hormones are the human growth hormone, which helps slow aging and break down fat; insulin, which regulates hunger pangs as it controls blood sugar levels; and serotonin, which monitors how full an individual feels.
To start using the program, you take a blood test to determine your blood chemistry. Using the results, Dr. Cohen creates a personalized eating plan that will balance the three hormones in your body and let you lose weight the natural way. According to Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre Philippines, “Each Eating Plan consists of three meals a day taken in specific quantities from the basic food groups of protein, vegetable, fruit, and carbohydrate.” The program uses common ingredients and food you can find in groceries, which makes it easy to maintain.
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOSE, AND DOES THE WEIGHT STAY OFF?
Those who use the Cohen Program lose an average of 8 to 10 pounds monthly, a scientifically proven fact, according to Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre Philippines. Cohen’s very own pioneers in the country—Barbara Young, Regina Rodriguez-Chuavon, and Dr. Angel Rodriguez-Bandola—underwent the program successfully. Dr. Bandola, who used to weigh 240 pounds, now maintains a 110-pound body, a product of going through the program for 13 months.
To make sure you won’t gain all the weight back when you resume eating normally, Cohen also conducts a short Refeeding Program, which aims to slowly reintroduce rich foods into your diet. How successful the diet is afterward depends on proper adherence to Cohen’s guidelines.
WHO CAN ENROLL IN IT?
If you’re a healthy individual aged 15 to 65 and need to lose 10 pounds or more, you’re eligible to enroll in the program. If you’re diabetic or if you have a heart condition or severe kidney and liver problems, however, you’re prohibited from doing so.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The entire program costs P55,000, reports Inquirer.net, which includes your personalized eating plan and a mentor to walk you through your fitness journey.
