Award-winning actress Iza Calzado revealed in an interview with talk show host Karen Davila that motherhood may come to her through surrogacy in the future.
She has, however, discussed with her husband Ben Wintle that she will go through at least one pregnancy.
"I do want to experience the process once, at least. I said I will commit to one baby and let's take it from there," Iza shared.
"However, I am preparing that one day I may take that option for surrogacy. I've never talked about this, but I have frozen [my eggs]," she revealed.
The 36-year-old said that she's planning to "keep banking" her eggs.
"I have one here, but I might try to do it in the States, or somewhere I can prepare for a possible surrogacy in the future.
Iza admits that one of the reasons she had her eggs frozen was because she felt like she wants kids, but isn't prepared for parenthood just yet.
"I knew I had all these fears, and it's not just a weight-gain fear. It's a fear of, Will I be a good mom? Am I emotionally and mentally ready for it?"
She acknowledges that motherhood is something "I feel... I will never fully understand it until I go through it. I feel like going through that will ground me, will really make me understand how human I am. It will challenge me, and it will bring out a better version of me.
"But I just don't know if I can keep doing it, that's why I'm preparing," she explains, hence the option to have a baby through surrogacy using her frozen eggs.
Egg freezing is becoming more and more popular among women these days as it gives them an option to start a family later on in life without worrying about their biological clock.
Says Iza, "I think it is a very powerful move for women who know deep in their hearts that they don't want to have kids early on, to freeze their eggs."
And, with a bit of regret, she adds, "I wish that I froze my eggs when I was younger."
Iza and Ben tied the knot in a beach setting on December 18, 2018 in Palawan.
