Ever experienced rushing to the bathroom after downing your morning coffee? Science has an explanation. American Chemical Society's "Reactions" series says that caffeine acts as a laxative and also causes your stomach to secrete a heightened level of gastric acid and another kind of acid called chlorogenic. When this happens, your acid levels rise, which then causes the stomach to push its contents faster down the intestines.

The three-minute video also explains that rhythmic contractions in the intestines and raised hormone levels that jumpstart your colon can be contributing factors to your sudden need to poop a few minutes after drinking coffee. For a more detailed explanation, watch the video below.
