American Chemical Society's "Reactions" series says that caffeine acts as a laxative and also causes your stomach to secrete a heightened level of gastric acid and another kind of acid called chlorogenic. When this happens, your acid levels rise, which then causes the stomach to push its contents faster down the intestines.
