Here's a simple way of improving your memory--clench your fists. According to a recent study on ScienceDaily.com, clenching your right fist may form a stronger impression of an event or an action to your brain, while clenching your left fist may help you recall the said incident later on.
This conclusion was based on a trial wherein groups of volunteers were asked to recall words from a list of 72. Some were asked to form a fist with their right hand for 90 seconds before memorizing and recalling the list; members of another group were asked to form a fist with their left hand; members of the third group clenched either their right or their left fists; while the members of the last group didn't clench their fists at all.
Results showed that those who clenched the right fist prior to memorizing and clenched their left fist prior to recalling the list performed better than the others.
Lead scientist Ruth Proper explains, "The findings suggest that some simple body movements--by temporarily changing the way the brain functions--can improve memory. Future research will examine whether hand clenching can also improve other forms of cognition, for example verbal or spatial abilities."
