Want to help your daughter go down to a healthy weight? Science Daily reports that aerobic exercise, rather than resistance training, may be just what she needs.
In a study published in the American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, researcher SoJung Lee of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and her team asked 44 obese girls from 12 to 18 years old to do either aerobic exercise or resistance training three days a week for 60 minutes.
After three months, they found that although both groups showed fat reduction, members of the aerobic exercise group lost visceral and liver fat, which improved their insulin sensitivity. Examine.com explains that insulin sensitivity is the ability of your body to reduce blood sugar levels, and has been known to help reduce weight.
Doing aerobic exercises like running and swimming may help your daughter reach a healthy weight, and lower her risk for type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and other non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases. Show her your support by enrolling her in an aerobics class, and joining her on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
