Are you prone to checking your phone for messages and likes all the time that you’ve forgotten to make connections that really matter? You need to detach from the virtual world once in a while. Here are seven reasons why:

To reconnect with people around you
Instead of messaging your sister who’s just in the other room, why not go to her and tell her what you want–in person.

To have some time with yourself

Instead of scrolling through your Facebook or Instagram feed on weekends, try to go out and have some quality time with yourself–visit your friends, take a walk in the park, or go on a road trip!

To break the pattern of always being available
Being online all the time isn’t a good thing. Magpa-miss ka.

To be more productive
If you’re always on your phone while at work, how will you manage to get things done? Our tip: Set a time for checking the latest trends on Twitter–say, during your lunch break–so you can finish your tasks without distractions.

To have more meaningful conversations

One of the saddest scenarios in a restaurant is seeing a group of people with their eyes glued to their screens–there are no real conversations just nods and mumbles. Make an effort to not use your phones when eating out. Try the stack challenge where people stack their phones up in the center and whoever checks their gadget first, pays for the group’s entire meal!

To de-stress
Some people think that they have to respond to every text, call, or email that comes their way. If you're one of these people, know that it's okay to take a break.

To appreciate the real world
It’s time to stop expressing yourself through the internet and start doing it in real life–it would definitely make you feel better and more human.
