Drink plenty of water.
Once again, H2O is the way to go. Drinking enough water throughout the day flushes toxins out of your body and keeps your skin hydrated and supple. While some suggest drinking eight glasses of water a day, it’s still essential to ask your dietician or nutritionist how many glasses you should really be taking.
It could be an intense cardio exercise or a calming yoga session—either way, it’s important to have a regular workout since it can help you with your body’s circulation. Dermatologist Ellen Marmur, MD, author of Simple Skin Beauty: Every Woman's Guide to a Lifetime of Healthy, Gorgeous Skin, says that "anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant." When you exercise, your blood flow increases and helps nourish your skin cells and keeps them vibrant.
While some people take sleeping for granted, having a well-rested night is actually important if you want to have radiant skin because it’s during sleep that your cells are being repaired. When you’re asleep, your skin's metabolic rate speeds up, which results in an increased production of cells and a reduced breakdown of protein.
Mind your vitamins.
Kaycee Reyes, M.D., skin and laser specialist, and the dermatologist behind Luminisce Holistic Skin Innovations in Bonifacio Global City, says that vitamins A (reduces sun damage to the skin and reduces furrows and skin creases), C (boosts collagen and elastin levels), E (prevents cell damage caused by free radicals), B3 (retains the skin's retention of moisture), and K (found in food like spinach and broccoli and helps break up blood clot that causes dark circles) have skin protecting effects and can help in giving you glowing skin.
"Our body has [the] inherent ability to price some antioxidants as a defense against free radicals. Antioxidants donate electrons to free radicals, thus neutralizing it," she says.
Dr. Reyes also adds, "Most of the time, if we do not practice good lifestyle habits, we create more free radicals in our bodies that can't be contained by the body's formed antioxidants. Thus, we need antioxidants from the outside to rehabilitate us and neutralize the free radicals."
Eat the right food.
The different kinds of vitamins you’ll need for radiant-looking skin can be found in foods such as fruits and vegetables. Those high in vitamin E include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils, while tomatoes have lycopene which protect the skin from sun UV rays by 33 percent.
Dr. Reyes recommends different kinds of fish like mackerel, salmon, bluefin tuna, anchovy herring, which are high in omega-3 fatty acids (these are anti-inflammatory agents that reduce DNA breakdown, thus promoting inner radiance). Aside from that, you could also try incorporating olive oil in your meals since they contain oleocanthal, which is an anti-inflammatory agent that delays aging and polyphenols (also an antioxidant) that repair damage done on cellular DNA.
Take care of yourself emotionally.
Stress can age you! If you feel like you’re about to break down from everything that’s happening around you, take time to disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself. Try doing yoga or breathing exercises, which could help you harmonize your body, mind, and emotions.
