According to presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, President Noynoy Aquino frowns upon Philippine Independence Day being celebrated on any other day but June 12 itself, Spot.PH reports. This has raised questions about the viability of Republic Act No. 9492, the so-called “holiday economics” law enacted under the Arroyo administration, which allowed the incumbent president to move non-religious holidays to the next Monday, says GMAnews.tv. The president has no stand yet on holiday economics however, Lacierda clarifies, and has only expressed his thoughts on Independence Day.

For years, the Philippines has gotten used to holiday economics, which was ratified to develop domestic tourism with the added bonus of giving workers longer weekends.
