Filipinos have always been known as a "happy" race. The latest survey conducted by Pulse Asia backs this up, as their results show that 9 out of 10 Pinoys look forward to the New Year. In fact, the non-commissioned project, which involved face-to-face interviews with 1,200 Filipinos aged 18 and above, recorded a majority vote across all geographic areas and socioeconomic classes.

Despite the many trials and tribulations the year 2011 has brought, many are still optimistic about a better year ahead. Less than 6 percent are apprehensive or without hope about 2012. In an interview with The Philippine Star, Pulse Asia stated that the results of the survey did not differ significantly from last year when majority of the Filipinos also appeared optimistic about the times ahead.

With a sampling error margin of plus or minus three percentage points, the survey also claimed that the general populace’s view about Christmas hasn’t changed a lot from the previous year’s report either. In fact, 52 percent of the surveyed individuals believe that this Christmas will be the same as December 2010. Subsequently, the same sentiment cuts across all geographic areas and socioeconomic classes save for those in Mindanao. Residents of the region reportedly believe that this year’s Christmas will be the same or more prosperous than last year’s Christmas.
