Ube fans, take a second to pinch yourself so you can be convinced that you are not dreaming. Melona, a popular and well-loved Korean ice cream, has expanded from its five classic flavors of honeydew, strawberry, banana, coconut, and mango, and added purple yam (ube, a.k.a a well-loved Filipino favorite) to its flavor selection.
Melona's purple yam-flavored popsicle is just as creamy and milky as its classic flavors. If you find that majority of the local ube ice creams are too sweet for your liking, you'll be glad to know Melona's take on this flavor has just the right amount of sweetness to it. It's bound to be your new ice cream favorite!
Where can one purchase this hidden gem? Assi Fresh Plaza (specifically, at the Commerce Center branch in Alabang) is the only grocery we know that offers Melona Purple Yam for P30 per stick. As of writing, this is not available on Assi Fresh Plaza's GrabFood platform. It's not even on Binggrae's (Melona's manufacturing company) official website yet.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that more supermarkets will soon carry this Melona flavor (and that there's enough for every ube fan)!
