You've made up your mind that living a healthier lifestyle is the top priority for 2011. Apart from adopting better eating habits, exercising, and getting enough rest, getting proper medical advice should be part of your healthy living checklist.
But how do you find the perfect doctor for your needs? Are your friends' recommendations enough? Find out how you to get the perfect physician with these tips!
1. DO YOUR RESEARCH.
Ask other patients. Check the doctor’s credentials—look at the diplomas displayed on the walls or do an online search on articles he or she may have authored (RxPinoy.com has an extensive list of doctors with their credentials). If in doubt, verify with the different medical societies if the specialist is board-certified or a fellow of the society. Contact information of various Philippine medical societies can be found at the DOH website and over at RxPinoy.com.
2. ASK QUESTIONS.
When you finally pay the doctor a visit, come armed with questions about your condition and your health in general. Ask about any findings or results of medical exams, or terms you do not understand. A good doctor is willing to hear you out and patient enough to explain things to you.
3. CHECK OTHER DETAILS.
Where are your lab tests sent for interpretation? Are they reliable facilities? Is the doctor open to second opinions? In the end, you’re looking for a partnership with a doctor who is trustworthy, compassionate, knowledgeable and non-judgmental.
