@Tobeyrich:PPV or pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine cannot be recognized by the immune system of a child less than 2 years of age while the PCV is recognizable because of the added adjuvant or conjugate vaccine. PPV contains 23 strains of the pneumococcal bacteria, but has been found to have shorter immunity compared to PCV. It is given to kids 2 years and above with underlying medical conditions such as congenital heart disease, renal diseases, etc.
