doc, different brand of hepa A was given to my baby.  the first one was havrix, and the other one was avaxim.  is it okay?  i told them before pa-iinject si baby na dapat same brand and they said oo pero nung chineck ko baby book, magkaiba silang brand.  Naka-attached dun yung sticker.

Allowed ang brand switching for both Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A vaccines since studies show there's very little difference among the brands available.

Normal reaction from BCG vaccination is scar formation within 2 to 4 weeks after vaccination.
There are 2 schools of thought, though, with regards to the failure to develop BCG scar. One group of experts say that if there is no BCG scar, then you need to re-vaccinate since there might be wrong technique, poor immune response, etc. There is another group of experts who say that if you are sure that BCG vaccine was given, then no need to re-vaccinate even if there is no scar formation since BCG offers little protection against Pulmonary TB and it protects more against extra-pulmonary TB.
My suggestion is to discuss this with your pedia so that you may know her views regarding this matter.

It would depend on what vaccines the baby has received so far.
Assuming that your baby has received all the recommended vaccines prior to 9 months of age, which means receiving the ff vaccines: 1 dose of BCG vaccine, 3 doses of DPT, Polio, Hib, Hepatitis B, Pneumococcal, 2 or 3 doses of rotavirus vaccines depending on what brand was used, as well as 2 doses of the flu vaccine, then, yes, Measles vaccine would be the recommended vaccine for that age...

Hi doc lelet, my grandson is now 6 months and just had his 3rd dose of 5-1 and hepa B today. I have 2 questions:
1. He never had PCV since birth, his pedia said he could have it anytime we want to. She didn't find the urgency since she finds my grandson healthy, no occurence of any respiratory illness so far since birth. What is your advice on this? Pls advise best time to get it.
2. His pedia scheduled the next vaccine on june 15 (next month already!) for measles. Just wondering, why so soon? I learned this should be given at 12-15 months. I noticed his pedia schedules his vaccines too advance, i had to make my own research  and reschedule them myself to suit the appropriate schedule, i.e. she was supposed to give the 3rd dose of 5-1 last month (baby's 5th month) only after a month of the 2nd dose! Any take on this? Can pedias just redesign the pattern of administering the vaccines? I am not comfortable with how schedules them and i do not want to offend her by asking all the time.

^sis my son also will be given Measles at 7th month and second dose of Flu, on June 29, he is 7th month n by then. PCV naman was given at I think as early as 2 months kasabay ng Rotavirus.
I just want to share na medyo makakahinga na kami ni hubby kasi tapos na kami sa first page ng vaccine lists, mga boosters na lang hooo. Tapos next month sa June 29, 1800 na lang babayaran namin for Measles and Flu. Sa 8th month no sched, sa 9th meron ulit MMR ata sa 10th at 11th no sched ulit. Balik namin sa 12th month na, hay salamat, mahihingan ko si hubby ng extra budget for our son's first birthday on Nov hehe.

Do I need to let him check by a pedia first?

Yes, he needs to get checked up by a regular pedia, not only for vaccination but also to check developmental milestones.
For the first year of life, babies should have monthly check ups, with or without a scheduled vaccination.

PCV can be given as early as 6 weeks of age till 9 years of age. Both the PPS and the AAP recommend it to be given early before 6 months of age since this is the time when the child is most vulnerable to pneumococcal infections.
Some pedias opt to delay it for healthy babies with unremarkable maternal history. The number of doses decrease depending on what age the first dose of the PCV was given.
The PPS recommends that Filipino babies receive the Measles vaccine between 6 to 9 months of age since Filipino maternal measles antibodies wane fast and disappear by the time the child is 6 to 9 months of age. Thus, making the infant more vulnerable to getting the Measles infection and with increased risk of complications such as Measles pneumonia. Infants who acquire the measles infection before the age of 1 year is also at risk of developing Sub acute sclerosing panencephalitis.
Aside from getting the Measles vaccine at 6 to 9 months of age, there is also a required MMR vaccine to be given between 12 to 15 months of age. Please note that even if the child received the measles vaccine at 6 to 9 months of age, the child should still get 2 doses of MMR vaccine for complete protection (1st dose of MMR at 12 to 15 months of age; 2nd dose at 4 to 6 years of age).
5 in 1 vaccines can be given on a 4 to 8 week interval so, yes, the 3rd dose could have been given 4 weeks after the 2nd dose. I suggest you also ask if you can get the vaccine insert/box so you can read up on the vaccine information.

The ff vaccines are recommended to be given starting at 12 months of age:
12 to 15 months: 1st dose of MMR
12 months: 1st dose of Chickenpox or varicella vaccine
12 months: 2 doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, given 6 to 12 months apart
15 to 18 months of age: 1st booster of DaPT, Polio and Hib
15 months: Booster dose of PCV
Yearly flu vaccine
2 years of age: Typhoid and meningococcal vaccines (both optional)
4 to 6 years of age: 2nd booster of DaPT and Polio, 2nd dose of MMR and Varicella vaccines

Meron Kasi si baby hepa b vaccine  at birth sa hospital, and then after that nag start na si baby ng penta vaccine sa health center 6 in 1 for every month for 3consecutive month. question ko po lumalabas na naka 4 ng hepa vaccine si baby dahil Meron pa sya hepa vaccine sa hospital at birth? Is it safe po?

Hi Dra. Lelet! My baby is turning 4 months this coming June 11, can I start his 1st pneumococcal vaccine on even if his 4 months already or is it too late?

Not yet too late to start with the PCV. Try to backread for more information.
No overdose with the 4 doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine, but since the last dose was given prior to 6 months post 1st dose of hepatitis B vaccine, then your baby still needs to receive a booster dose 1 year after the last dose.

The ff vaccines are part of the 2013 Expanded Immunization Program being followed by the local health centers:
BCG
3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine
3 doses of DPT vaccine
3 doses of Polio vaccine
3 doses of HIB vaccine
2 or 3 doses of the Rotavirus vaccine
3 doses of PCV
1 Measles vaccine
1 MMR vaccine

However, I am not sure if they give the RV and the PCV free of charge already.

PCV can be given on the same day as the Measles vaccine, provided the vaccines are given at 2 different injection sites.
Watch out for fever post PCV since fever is one of the common side effects of PCV.
The measles vaccine may also lead to fever and rashes 1 to 2 weeks post vaccination.

Hi doc lelet! tapos na po si baby ko ng 2 penta with rota (2doses) magkasunod na months and when i checked his baby book next vaccine is hexa 3 na ang nakalagay by July na po wala po sya vaccine ngayon month overseas po yung doc ni baby.

Ask ko lang po sana bakit may gap ng 1 month for next vaccine & ano po yung hexa 3? Bakit wala pong hexa 1 & 2?

Hexa most probably pertains to Infanrix hexa or the 6 in 1 vaccine which contains DaPT, Polio, Hib and hepatitis B.
Pentaxim ba ang binigay sa kanya before or Infanrix IPV HIb?
One probable reason why there is no Hexa 1 and 2 is because your pedia opted to give 5 in 1 for the 1st 2 doses for DaPT, Polio and Hib then for 3rd dose, 6 in 1 vaccine ang ibibigay since the 3rd dose of hepatitis B is recommended to be given at 6 months of age.
Meron iba naman na 6 in 1 all through out the 3 doses. Meron naman na Infanrix IPV HIB for the 1st 2 doses then Infanrix hexa for the 3rd dose.
I suggest you ask your pedia as to the scheduling and the use of Hexa 3 since she is the best person to explain regarding her preferences.
