hi doc lelet! my baby was given 5 in 1 shot today and opv, sa fri sched nya ng rotavirus, is that ok or dapat one month yun pagitan bago ibigay yun rota? my baby is 6weeks old pa lang thanks po

hi sisses, ask ko lang. binigyan ng 5-in-1 baby ko sa center yesterday morning. normal bang lagnatin sya hanggang today? I was advised to give her paracetamol before and after the  shot. then today, once ko lang pinainom ng paracetamol kasi ganun yung advise nung pedia nya when i had her vaccinated with hepa b. she's 3 mos old.

doc leletmd kelan po ba binibigay ang meningitis vaccine? my son is already 2 yrs old tingin ko wala pa sya nun nung chineck ko ang book nya.sinashoot po ba sya alone or kasama sya sa mga 5in1 or 6in1? TIA

Sis ephemeralichi: yung baby ko nabigyan ng 5in1 sa clinic ng pedia nia, pero hindi siya nagfever... Pero yung next shot, sa center na, yung penta, 5in1, nagfever ng 3 days baby ko... Pero sabi ng pedia niya, every 6 hours ang paracetamol... Pinupunasan ko din si baby, but not rubbing his skin kase tataas lalo ang temperature dahil sa friction... Pat lang

sis rtmanaloto, thanks! okay na si baby, di nanilagnat ng 9pm onwards kagabi. Medyo irritable lang. Dapat pala binibigyan ko paracetamol. cool fever lang kasi inilalagay ko tas punas punas.

Meningococcal vaccine is given as an optional vaccine at 2 years of age.
There are 2 types of meningococcal vaccine available nowadays:
Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine - given to kids 2 years and above since polysacharide vaccines cannot be recognized by the immune system of a child less than 2 years of age.

Meningococcal conjugate vaccine - may be given as early as 9 months of age as a 2 dose series, at least 3 months apart. If given after 2 years of age, only 1 dose is needed. The MCV offers better protection and longer lasting immunity compared to MPV. It is also more expensive compared to MPV.

Hello po Doc,

My son is turning 4 in 2 weeks. He had his first shot of MMR + Varicella already. Dapat 2nd shot na niya kapag nag 4 years old na siya. But this morning, habang pinapaliguan ko siya, I noticed a lot of rashes on his body. Dumadami siya and may water sa loob. Chicken pox daw po. So, since nagka chicken pox na po siya e hindi na po bibigay yung 2nd shot of Varicella? Yung MMR nalang po ba? Also, I thought po na kapag may Varicella vaccine na po e hindi na magkakaroon ng chicken pox?

doc lelet, hello po. i would like to know when is the best time to have flu vaccine shot for infant aged 6mos? ok lang po ba na middle of the year na? thank you po.

Ideally, flu vaccine should be given before the start of the flu season. Best time to give it here in the Philippines would be between Feb to May of each year, but pwede naman ihabol kahit late na to ensure that the child gets protected since ang marami pa ring nagkakaflu around Nov - Jan when the weather turns cold again.

When the chicken pox vaccine was first introduced several years ago, the initial recommendation was to just give 1 dose to kids 1 to 13 years of age, but post surveillance studies showed that a lot of kids still developed chicken pox with just the 1 dose given so the CDC changed their recommendations and added the 2nd dose to be given at 4 to 6 years of age. So since 1 dose pa lang ang naibigay sa kid mo, then talagang susceptible pa rin siya to get chicken pox dahil hindi pa enough ang antibodies na nadedevelop ng immune system niya against the disease. This is why it is very important to complete the immunization series, even with regards to getting booster shots.
If your kid really has chickenpox, then hindi na niya kailangan bigyan ng 2nd dose of the varicella vaccine. MMR vaccine na lang ang ibibigay sa kanya along with the 2nd booster dose of DaPT and Polio at 4 to 6 years of age. My suggestion, though, is to have the rashes seen by the pedia para may official diagnosis siya.

Hi Doc Lelet. Thank you for your response. The rashes started to come out last Sunday. It's his 6th day and nag dry na yung mga rashes. We will go back to his Pedia this Sunday to check If he can go to school na. We already went to his Pedia but was advised na since kakalabas lang e hindi pa siya 100% na chicken pox nga. Hopefully he'll be ok na so he can celebrate his birthday next week. =) Thanks po ulit!

Hi doc, may daughter's pedia is already recommending to give the second shot of chicken pox vaccine but she is only 3 y/o. Is that okay? or should i wait for one more year?

doc lelet, pwede ba yung hindi ko makukuhang vaccine sa center e sa pedia ko kukunin? last week kasi nagpunta kami sa center and tinanong ko yung rota vaccine and pneumococcal, sa member lang daw ng 4 p's binibigay yun (i don't know ano yung 4 p's) tanong ko nadin po kung 6 weeks po ba binibigay yung rota and pneumococcal vaccine? nagresearch po kasi ako sa childhood immunization schedule ng doh.

mga sis my daughter is 2months now nagkaroon ng pulmonya at katatapos lang po ng antibiotic nya.. which is pediamox and asmalin for nebulizer yung asmalin natapos yung antibiotic nung monday 12noon.

bukas August 7 2013 naka schedule siya for vaccine.. doclelet pwede ba siya magpa vaccine bukas kahit katatapos pa lang ng antibiotic nya? and considering po may ubo pa din siya until now..

Hi dra lelet! my son is 2months and 11 days old.he had his bcg and hepab at birth (may 29, 2013). Late na po kami nakapagpa pa 2nd dose ng hepab nya which was last july 29, kasama na po  sa 6 in1 nya infanrix hexa 6. Ask ko lang po kelan ulit 3rd dose ng hepa b nya and 2nd dose ng 6in1?  Sabay na po ba ulit ito ibibigay with 6 in 1 or mag 5 in 1 po muna then separate vaccine na yung hepa b? In that case, yung 5in1 po ba may infanrix din na brand kasi nag back read po ako dito di pwede magka ibang brand iinject ke baby aside sa hepa a and b. and what month po sya ready for rota and pcv vaccine? Pwede nyo po ba ilist down yung mga susunod nyang vaccines and kung kailan dapat nya ito itake? yung kompleto na po? I would really appreciate your reply. Im a first time mom and gusto ko po maging ok and well si baby with regards to his vaccination schedules kasi i read na may mga vaccines na may intervals at di pwede pagsabayin.

Also ask ko na rin po kung ano mas maganda rotarix or rotateq? Pcv 10 or Pcv 13? Thanks po in advance...

If it is given ahead of time, it would still be considered a valid dose as long as it is given 3 months from the 1st dose but as to if it needed to be given early, well, it would depend on how at risk your daughter is in getting chicken pox at this stage. Please ask your pedia as to why she is recommending an earlier schedule for the 2nd dose.

Yes, you can avail of the other vaccines c/o your child's pedia.
The 1st dose of the PCV and Rotavirus vaccines may be given starting 6 weeks of age.
The Rotavirus vaccine 1st dose should be given before the child turns 14 weeks and 6 days. Otherwise, hindi na ito pwede ibigay since there is increased risk of intussusception.

Best person to ask would be your pedia since dapat macheck up muna ang anak mo before a decision is made whether to vaccinate or not.

Are you referring to the 1st dose of the rotavirus vaccine? If yes, then hindi na talaga ito pwede ihabol kung 7 months na.
Very strict ang recommendations regarding the rotavirus vaccine schedule since there were issues regarding increased cases of intussusception with the previous schedules and the previous rotavirus vaccine Rotashield which was taken out of market before. So dapat ang 1st dose maibigay within 6 weeks to 14 weeks and 6 days while the last dose should be given before the child turns 8 months of age.

The 3rd dose of the hepatitis B vaccine should be given 6 months after the 1st dose. It may be given as a monovalent/single vaccine or as part of the Infanrix hexa. Please ask your pedia as to her preference since she is the one who will make the actual recommendation.
Infanrix hexa has a 5 in 1 version: Infanrix IPV hib. Again, your pedia is the best person to ask since she will be the one to decide as to whether or not she will use the 5 in 1 version or stick to the 6 in 1 version.
Rotavirus vaccine as well as the PCV can be given starting 6 weeks of age. As I mentioned in the posts above, very strict ang recommendations regarding the rotavirus vaccine schedule and the 1st dose should be given before the child turns 14 weeks and 6 days.
Parehong may mga merits ang rotateq and rotarix as well as PCV 10 and 13. Pasensya na, but it would be unethical for me to state my vaccine brand preferences since it might be construed as advertising/promoting a certain product.
Kindly backread as to the differences between rotateq/rotarix and PCV 10/13 since I posted this several times in the thread already.

pasensya ka na doc, hindi kasi po siya nabigyan ng vaccine that time dahil daw po may ubo at sipon siya.
this evening, he is scheduled for this 6 in 1 vaccine.
