ABOUT THE COMMERCIAL
The creative genius behind the commercial is director Robbie Dinglasan. Direk Robbie said that the concept of the commercial was a big gathering of women showing off their natural bouncy hair. The commercial was unique because it was shot outdoors, which is unusual for hair commercials. Direk kept things natural—lighting, movement, background—which was in line with the product and not very common to advertisements for hair products.
The commercial was shot on location in Cavite. He also took into consideration the venue of the shoot in order to fully showcase the Pantene bounce. When asked whether he encountered any difficulty, he said that it was quite difficult to shoot outdoors but that the natural elements came into play and in fact made the commercial more unique. He also commended the girls who joined through the Pantene Philippines Facebook fan page, saying that they never complained despite the intense heat. In fact, he said, it was their excitement and energy that kept the shoot going on schedule.
THE GIRLS
Pantene created an online search in which the girls were asked to show off their naturally bouncy hair. These girls were then invited to join the biggest hair movement ever done locally, some of them making their way from farflung areas of the country, like Jessica Kaye Patricio, who flew in from Davao. Although the sheer number of girls proved to be a challenge, Pantene was able to organize the event and shoot without a hitch. There was a photo booth for the girls, hair and make-up stations, catered food, and even a lounge area where the girls were able to rest and mingle amongst themselves. They truly were treated like celebrities.
Everybody was surprised by the turnout. Even Angelica was touched by the immense outpouring of support for Pantene. In fact, she said that this commercial is probably the biggest she has done to date because of her 300 costars. She was also delighted by the fact that the girls were all wearing white. “Ang pleasant tignan, ang bango-bango tignan, malinis tignan, parang ako lang,” she said with a happy giggle. She then went on to say that what makes her truly happy about the commercial is that Pantene was able to fulfill every girl’s dream to become part of a commercial featuring their natural beauty. “Hindi lang basta-basta commercial, talagang super big name, kung baga Pantene ‘to, hindi to basta-basta commercial na makakasama sila. So yun ang nakakatuwa talaga. Moment naman nila to shine.”
