Having body acne (or bacne) is no fun. When you have zits on your body, you can become self-conscious when wearing clothes that show off a lot of skin. But it's also important to remember that they're normal, so there's no need to aim for a perfectly makinis back to wear what you feel confident in. Just do a little skincare to even out your complexion!

While there are ways to heal them (thank you, skincare gods), bacne can sometimes leave behind dark spots or scars. To lighten the marks, try this easy-to-follow brightening routine:

1. Cleanse with a brightening soap or body wash.

One way to get rid of the bacne scars is by using a body wash packed with chemical exfoliants to slough away dead skin cells to reveal brighter skin. (No scrubbing necessary!) Look for products with the following ingredients on the label: AHA, glycolic acid, lactic acid, kojic acid, or salicylic acid.

2. Try an exfoliating toner.

You may also spot-treat your scars with an exfoliating toner to speed up the process. Again, look for products with AHA, BHA, glycolic acid, lactic acid, kojic acid, or salicylic acid on the label.

3. Say yes to retinol.

Applying retinol works, too! This ingredient boosts collagen production, treats the skin breakout, and evens out the skin texture. READ: Deep scars will heal and marks will be lighter.

4. Nourish and even out.

Another lightening step you can try: After cleansing the area, dab a brightening and nourishing oil on the spots. Look for products with rosehip or sunflower oil.
