Dancing in stilettos is an accident waiting to happen. Just ask Megastar Sharon Cuneta, who’s recently joined the ranks of Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Shakira, and countless other artists who accidentally fell while performing onstage. According to PEP.ph, the singer-actress took a minor tumble in the middle of her annual birthday concert last January 11 at the Araneta Coliseum. While she got up and laughingly went on with the show, she felt woozy afterwards and was taken to a hospital for a check-up. Later on, she sent a text message to her friends and fans, assuring them that it was just a case of having skipped lunch and fatigue, nothing traumatic or serious.Trivial as it may seem, any injury sustained from a fall shouldn’t be taken so lightly. Head trauma is the most dangerous complication, because you’ll never know how severe the injury is until it’s too late. After a skiing accident in Canada, actress Natasha Richardson claimed to be perfectly fine and even joked about the fall, so she initially refused to see a doctor. She died at the hospital days later from an epidural hematoma (a bleed from a ruptured vessel that causes pressure on the brain).
When it comes to trauma, there is no substitute for seeking prompt treatment at the nearest emergency room. But while waiting for medical help, here are some handy first-aid tips on what to do (and what not to do) in particular situations.
