At a press conference for her upcoming concert with husband Ogie Alcasid, Mr. & Mrs. A, Regine Velasquez recounted how she and Ogie went to visit American Idol star David Archuleta on the set of his TV5 teleserye, PEP.ph reports.
Asia's Songbird confessed it was David himself who requested to meet them, and she and Ogie couldn't help feeling flattered upon seeing how ecstatic he was to see them. "Nung nakita namin siya, sobra siyang excited, naka-ganun lang siya, parang na-shock siya! (When we saw him, he was so excited. He just looked shocked!)" she recalled, laughing.
David even knew Regine had given birth a few months ago and asked after baby Nate. "Ipinakita ko yung pictures [ni baby Nate] (I showed him pictures of baby Nate)," she explained. "Tapos, parang mahiyain siya. Ang cute-cute niya! (He seemed shy. He was so cute!)"
After talking with David, Regine found out that he had actually started listening to her songs when he was 16, after watching a YouTube video in which she performed Mariah Carey's "Butterfly." He listened to it repeatedly before eventually discovering Mariah Carey's original version. "He kept watching daw other videos of mine. So, even before [American Idol], natutuwa na daw siya sa akin."
The three singers also had the opportunity to jam together that night. Besides singing "Wherever You Are" with Regine, David also had a duet with Ogie. They sang "Nandito Ako," Ogie's song, which David is doing a cover of for his upcoming teleserye. "Ang cute ng kanta nila! Ang ganda, nakakatuwa, nakakatuwa, nakakakilabot! Tapos yung asawa ko, proud na proud. (Their number was so cute. It was so beautiful. It made me happy, and it also gave me chills! And my husband felt so proud.)"
