Actress Nikki Valdez first talked about her separation with her husband, Christopher Lina, in 2010, but she was tight-lipped about what caused the "irreconcilable differences" in their marriage. In an interview on Kris TV on October 27, ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Nikki finally divulged the reason for the breakup: her husband had cheated on her.
"Iba pala talaga yung sinasabi nila kapag may kutob ka (It's really different if you have a gut feeling)," she told TV host Kris Aquino. "Noong una, hindi ako nakikinig sa ganoon pero when I experienced it, sabi ko may nangyayari pero hindi ko ma-prove sa sarili ko; wala akong mapakitang ebidensiya. Plus, we already had a history na ganoon [noong mag-boyfriend girlfriend kami]. (At first, I didn't listen to things like that, but when I experienced it, I told myself something happened. But I couldn't prove it to myself; I couldn't give any evidence. Plus, we already had a history like that back when we were just boyfriend and girlfriend)."
Nikki, who once hoped her first husband would be her last, realized that even though she could take a lot of things in their relationship, infidelity wasn't one of them. When Nikki was doing the movie In My Life in 2009, she decided it was time to come home to the Philippines, and that was it.
"Kasi nagkaroon sa part niya na kung hindi ka babalik dito [Canada] wala na (There was a point when he said if I didn't come back to Canada, we're over)," she explained. "He was the one who filed the divorce. Ako yung parang nag-hold on pa nga. (I was even the one who tried to hold on.)"
Nikki and Christopher are already divorced in Canada, but their annulment is still pending in the Philippines. Nikki told Kris that she thinks her husband and the third party are still together.
