Georgina Wilson seems to be collecting magazine covers this year—last month she rocked short shorts on Women’s Health, and this month she graces Preview in a handpainted snakeskin sheath. The June 2010 issue of the top fashion mag features Georgina in a dramatic assortment of couture which pays homage to the late British designer Alexander McQueen, who committed suicide in February. According to editor-in-chief Pauline Juan, Georgina’s cover is a special case: not only was the supermodel and TV host explicitly requested by Preview’s Facebook fans, but she was also brought on board after the cover theme was finalized (which is contrary to regular practice). The reason? She seemed perfect to channel the essence of the deceased fashion legend, to put it simply. For her part, Georgina says, “Just being on the cover alone is a privilege!”
Stunning, impressively nuanced, and smart to boot (she graduated with honors and holds degrees in finance and accounting), Georgina makes high fashion dressing look like a piece of cake. In the spread, she dons a Victorian tulle ball gown, tiny checkered frocks with formidable headpieces, and black leather body armor, to name a few—doing McQueen and his unconventional, often shocking, designs justice.
While modeling appears to be her forte, Georgina has branched out to more visible areas of show business. She’s now a Channel V VJ, hosting Top 10 countdowns, request hours, and the odd corporate function. She’s even received offers to act as co-host on popular variety show Wowowee—which would certainly open doors for her in the entertainment industry.
But audiences may have to wait (for a yet-to-be-determined amount of time) before they can see Georgina transition onto the big screen. The young star maintains what she said in a previous interview about not being open to dramatic roles—yet. “I love showbiz. I don’t think it’s my path to be headlining a movie, though,” she tells Preview. “I do get offers but I don’t know if I can act yet! Let’s see.”
For now, Georgina is content to have a flourishing career, a solid circle of friends, and an intensely loving and supportive family she can count on every step of the way. “I’m glad with what I’m doing right now, I never thought I’d be doing it. I just feel like every year my life gets happier and happier.”
