Claudine Barretto’s camp is questioning the hearing of her Permanent Protection Order (PPO) case against ex-husband Raymart Santiago, which was held at the Makati Regional Trial Court last December 19, reports PEP.ph.
In an email sent by Claudine’s lawyer Atty. Ferdinand Topacio to the entertainment website, he stated that they had already requested Judge Geraldine Fiel-Macaraig of Branch 192 to postpone the hearing, as he was not feeling well. The actress’s second attorney couldn’t stand in either, as he was attending another hearing. With no one to represent the actress, the hearing should have been rescheduled.
However, it pushed through with Gretchen Barretto serving as Raymart Santiago’s witness. According to Claudine’s camp, it was a clear violation of the actress’s rights.
“KAHIT SAANG HUKUMAN AY PINAGBIBIGYAN ANG POSTPONEMENT NG KASO KAPAG ANG DAHILAN AY KARAMDAMAN NG ABOGADO (In any court, requests for case postponement are accepted if the reason is the lawyer's health.).
“HINAHAMON KO ANG SINO MAN NA IPAGTANONG ANG BAGAY NA ITO SA KAHIT SINONG HUWES O HUKUMAN SA KAHIT NA ANONG LUGAR SA PILIPINAS (I challenge anyone to ask this matter to any court in any place in the Philippines),” the email read.
In the end, the letter indicated that Claudine’s lawyers will be doing whatever they can to make sure that the actress’s rights are respected.
