Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero has admitted that he's affected by the vehement opposition of Heart Evangelista’s parents, Rey and Cecile Ongpauco, to his relationship with their daughter.

“Of course I am [distracted],” Chiz was quoted as saying in an article published on Inquirer.net on April 14. “Tao lang ako, (I’m only human) I get affected, especially when I cannot respond. 'Di naman ako bato. Hindi applicable sa akin yung kantang ‘Pusong Bato (I’m not made out of stone. The song 'Pusong Bato' isn’t applicable to me.).’”

Still, Chiz says he would rather refrain from defending himself against the Ongpaucos’ accusations for the time being.

“I’m still weighing things out. Remember, I wasn’t the one who named someone as lasenggo, bastos, and walang modo (a rude alcoholic without manners),” he said. “It’s hard to answer back. I’m trying my best not to say anything for the meantime. Heart and I were caught by surprise by what was said at the press conference. I’m in an awkward position. Suffice it to say that everything they said, everything they’re doing now, is just because they want us to break up. They admitted this themselves during their press conference.”

The senator also said that he would never do what the Ongpaucos did to Heart should his own children fall for someone he doesn’t approve of.

“You see, I also have children—I love them—but this doesn’t give me the license to say bad things about them,” he said, referring to his six-year-old twins with his estranged wife Christine Flores. “When they grow up and eventually do something to displease me, I’d talk to them privately. I will not set up a press conference.”

Despite all these, Chiz still says that he wants his love story with Heart to end on a high note.

“I’m not closing any doors. In fact, I’m opening even the windows,” he said. “Who wouldn’t want a happy ending?”
