"Hindi naman ako magso-sorry kung alam kong hindi ako nagkamali," says Carlo Aquino in a recent interview, admitting that he is at fault in the rift between him and his ex-girlfriend and former love team partner Angelica Panganiban. The actress cut ties after Carlo allegedly led Angelica on.
On July 30, during the launch of Carlo's upcoming first solo concert Liwanag in Concert, Angelica's recent tweet about refusing to reconcile with the actor was brought up. A fan of Carlo and Angelica tweeted: "Kahit minsan lang...mabuo ang family," tagging both Angelica and Carlo's Twitter accounts.
Angelica replied: "Nope. Sorry. Spare me. Si Khang at si Josh lang ang tinuturing kong pamilya. Gusto kong maging mabuting tao. Pero ayokong maging bobo :)."
According to Carlo, one of his co-workers told him about the tweet. When asked about his reaction on Angelica's statement, Carlo said: "Para lang sa akin, kung may apoy, di mo na bubuhusan ng Gasul 'yon para lumaki pa. Huwag na natin siguro pahabain. Siguro yung emotions niya, valid 'yon. Kung 'yon ang nararamdaman niya, ibigay natin sa kanya. Saka ang tagal na rin-six, seven months? Ang tagal na rin."
In December 2018, Carlo and Angelica were spotted celebrating Christmas together, which led to CarGel fans speculating if the two were back together. However, earlier this year, photos of Carlo and his rumored non-showbiz girlfriend vacationing at La Union circulated online.
Soon after that, Angelica distanced herself from Carlo until they were no longer on speaking terms.
When asked if he made an effort to reconcile with Angelica, Carlo said: "Sincerely, nag-sorry ako sa kanya. And ayoko... hindi ko kailangan mag-sorry in public dahil napaplastikan ako pagka gan'on. Personal, mas maganda 'yon. Ilang beses naman kaming nag-usap. So, I think, okay na 'yon for me."
Bashers have been blaming Carlo for breaking off their love team CarGel, with some going as far as calling him "paasa."
According to Carlo, it reached a point when he had to turn off the comments' section on his Instagram account to avoid the negativity. "Kasi noong time na 'di mo na kaya, 'di ba? Pati 'yong attack sa mga malalapit sa 'yo. Okay lang yung kung sa akin, e. Pero kung sa mga taong wala naman kinalaman sa desisyon na ginawa ko sa buhay ko, bakit, 'di ba? Bakit mo gaganunin? So, in-off ko. In-on ko rin, eventually. Hindi pala sila titigil talaga kahit gaano na katagal... Kasi, pag inisip ko, 'di ka tatayo... Lahat naman tayo nagkakamali, e. Sino ba naman yung taong perpekto? Sila din naman nagkakamali. Kami lang magnified, under scrutiny kami lagi ng mga tao."
