Angel Locsin will forever be attached to her iconic role of Pinay superhero Darna. But what makes Angel even more special is that being a do-gooder isn't lost in her fictional TV character but is true to her very nature. The Kapamilya star has made headlines over the past years for her many philanthropic efforts to help aid those affected by calamities, and with the continuous spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Angel once again put on her power suit and launched a fundraising campaign.
On March 25, over a week after the enhanced community quarantine was enforced all over Luzon, Angel set up the #UniTentWeStandPH campaign to provide hospitals specialized tents for their COVID-19 patients. And Angel's efforts were far from wasted because, on April 13, she announced that they raised a total of P10,956,702.98 for the campaign.
Writing on Instagram, Angel announced that they were closing the fundraiser because they've acquired enough money for the hospital tents:
"Because of your overwhelming support, we are happy to announce that we have sufficiently funded the #UniTENTweStandPH campaign.
With a full and grateful heart, we are now ending the fundraising and will no longer accept CASH donations through PayPal, Paymaya, or bank account.
Tuloy pa rin po ang pagbibigay natin ng hospital tents sa mga ospital. Thank you very much!"
Angel's fundraiser was a joint effort between her and fiancé Neil Arce, best friend Dimples Romana, Dr. Marev Matic, and Gines Sarangaya of ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. Apart from #UniTENTweStandPH, Angel has helped acquire and distribute medical supplies and personal protective equipment to frontliners in Manila and various other provinces.
