kris_aquino.jpgLife is never boring when you’re actress and TV host Kris Aquino. Her 2010 has been colored with marriage troubles, presidential campaign work, and even sickness. All these she weathered gamely under the media spotlight. It’s the end of the year again, and as we’re entering a new year of experiences, Female Network looks back on what the Queen of All Media has taught us over the past few months.

1.    KNOW WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Earlier this year, Kris spoke up after her husband James Yap had an affiar with a certain Mayen Austria. She moved out of their house, asking James to give her “assurance na mahal [ako], nirerespeto [ako], at hindi [ako] niloloko…Patunayan niya sa akin that this marriage is worth it, make me feel like I’m really your wife, make me feel that he is a responsible husband and a loving father and that this marriage has a future."

2. LEARN TO SUPPORT FROM THE SIDELINES

Chaos broke out after President Noynoy Aquino won the elections this year and Kris allegedly did not honor her “promise” to leave the country should she become a burden to him. In actuality, Kris had already withdrawn from several of her shows—including entertainment talk show The Buzz—in respect of her brother’s position.

3.  BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP AND WORK ON FIXING THEM TOGETHER

Although Kris’s marriage with basketball player James Yap officially unraveled this year, the ups and downs of Kris’s relationship show us by example what we should watch out for in our own.

4.   DON'T INVOLVE ANY INNOCENT PARTIES IN MARITAL DISPUTES

Despite their relationship problems, both Kris and James love their son Bimby very much. Kris initially prevented James from seeing Bimby but they have since come to terms with each other for the sake of their child. “I think, when we have a child like ours, wala kayong choice kasi mababara kayo ng three years old kung mag-aarte pa siya or mag-aarte pa ako (We don't have a choice because the three-year-old will just call either of us out if we act up),” Kris told PEP.ph. "Constant naman, and I told him, 'You can have Bimby.' Kasi, ganoon ang hatian, di ba? (That's how sharing goes, right?)”

5. GET A PRENUPTIAL AGREEMENT

Kris spoke up about not following the late Cory Aquino's advice when she told her to ask for a prenup to secure Josh’s future. “My mom’s concern is that Josh is illegitimate; Josh is a special child who has so many needs,” she told ABS-CBNNews.com in October. Prenuptial agreements actually protect your children and your property, as well as prevent you from getting into debt. Thanks to Kris’s situation, the importance of getting one, often seen as a sign of distrust in your significant other, was brought to light.

6. KNOW HOW TO ADMIT DEFEAT GRACEFULLY

Kris left her post as a TV host for noontime show Pilipinas Win na Win in September. Instead of hiding the circumstances of her leaving, she gamely explained the situation. "May I just clarify—I didn't resign or quit,” Kris is quoted as saying on PEP.ph. “I was asked to leave Win to make room for new male hosts. I'm honest and humble enough to not lie about the situation."  This plucky reply made 34.98% of you admire her guts in our poll, “What do you think of Kris Aquino being asked to leave ‘Pilipinas, Win na Win’?”

7. LEARN TO ACCEPT YOUR SIBLING’S CHOICE OF SIGNIFICANT OTHER. IT'S HIS LIFE, NOT YOURS.

When news broke out in November that PNoy and presidential stylist Liz Uy were dating, Kris gave the relationship her blessing saying, “Pinagsabihan ako ni Noy na ‘Manahimik ka, mas matanda ako, huwag kang makialam,’ at susunod ako. (Noy told me, 'Keep quiet, I'm older, don't interfere,' and I will follow him.) But it's no secret that I love Liz. Sana lasting happiness.”

8. TRY TO GET ALONG WITH A PAST FLAME, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE KIDS TOGETHER

In a teary-eyed interview on The Buzz, Kris revealed that she and James are now on good terms, to the point that she asked him to be Diether Ocampo’s body double for a shooting for her Christmas movie Dalaw.  “You go through stages sa hiwalayan. There's anger, there's resentment, there's peace for a while...And then, you read the paper,” she told PEP.ph. “You read what you file. You read what he files. Magagalit kayo all over again. And then, aabot kayo sa point of acceptance na, 'Hey, we can be friends.'

9. DON'T AIR YOUR DIRTY LINEN IN PUBLIC

The courts issued a gag order for Kris Aquino after James and his camp filed for one to prohibit the host from talking about their annulment case in public. James and his attorney claimed that whenever their camp had to make comments for the media, it was usually in response to Kris's statements.

10. VALUE YOUR SIBLINGS' PRIVACY

After Kris revealed P-Noy was dating stockbroker Len Lopez, the president stated he had given Kris no permission to talk about his love life. “As you know, that is a topic that I have reserved for my private life,” he told GMAnews.tv. “The love life will not be existent if the questions are entertained.”
