Things started heating up after ABS-CBN's annual Star Magic Ball on September 3 when actors Matteo Guidicelli and Coco Martin started exchanging blows at the Manila Peninsula Hotel's Salon de Ning. According to a source from The Buzz, the fight stemmed from Coco allegedly locking lips with Maja Salvador at the afterparty. Two eyewitnesses told PEP.ph that the incident happened after Matteo tried to strangle Coco as they were walking from the Rigodon Ballroom to Salon de Ning. Coco reportedly fought back and hit Matteo, which caused the other's mouth to bleed. Afterward, PEP.ph saw Star Magic head Johnny Manahan talking to Star Magic executive Mariole Alberto and heard him recounting how Matteo had been jealous of Coco and Maja's closeness. The two co-starred as lovers in the teleserye Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.
Maja, who finally revealed she was Matteo's girlfriend in an interview with The Buzz on September 4, confirmed that the fight happened but denied that such a kiss between her and Coco occurred. She was tight-lipped about the other details of the incident, ABS-CBNNews.com reports, and could only cry as she admitted the two men had indeed fought over her.
Meanwhile, Star Magic and LJD Management released an official statement regarding the incident and said, "What happened was just a simple misunderstanding. Both Coco and Matteo are sorry it happened. Everything has been resolved."
