Derek Ramsay has finally admitted that he is in a relationship with actress Cristine Reyes. The two have been linked to each other for a long time, but they initially insisted that they were just friends.

“Yeah, we confirmed it yesterday, it’s one day pa lang,” the actor was quoted as saying in an article on PEP.ph, adding that they were both also taken aback by the sudden change in their relationship.

“It’s really weird because I know you heard me say this na wala talagang nangyayari (that nothing’s really happening),” he shared. “I want everyone to know that’s true. We’re both in shock, we both find it really awkward. Magkaibigan kami, and the last two weeks, the last week and a half, something different happened, and we decided that it’s worth taking the risk.”

When he was asked about what happened to change the dynamics between them, Derek said that he just hung out with Cristine more often than before, adding that he did not formally court her as they have been confidantes for a long time.

“In a week and a half, we just hung out with each other 'coz I’ve been working every day and it’s really, really stressful,” he said. “We don’t usually get to hang out this much, every now and then lang kami before. Then heto, nagsama kami ng one week and a half, tapos 'ayun na (Then here, we got together for one week and half, then this happened.).”

He also clarified that he was not the reason behind Cristine’s breakup with her ex-boyfriend Rayver Cruz earlier this year.

“Rayver and I are friends, Cristine is my friend, and they came to my house together,” he said. “Cristine and I got closer in No Other Woman. Rayver is close to Angelica [Panganiban, Derek's ex-girlfriend], and they’re both my friends.”

Derek, who earlier said that he didn’t want his next relationship to be a high-profile one after his controversial breakup with Angelica last year, also admitted that he is afraid that the past might repeat itself.

“Yeah, I’m scared, I’m scared,” he confessed. "But if you don’t take risk, you'll never get anywhere… Kami din ni Cristine, we find it weird, but we know it’s worth taking the risk and nag-e-enjoy kami (Cristine and I also find it weird, but we know it’s worth taking the risk and we’re enjoying it.).”
