The highlight of the event was when Witherspoon and Jung introduced the $1 million Avon Global Believe Fund, a new project that plans to support women’s domestic violence shelters worldwide. With the help of their partner, the National Network to End Domestic Violence, Avon aims to raise awareness about the lack of services for victims of domestic violence.
“Approximately one in three women globally is likely to experience some type of violence in her lifetime,” Witherspoon said. “It's a sad fact, and I believe we all have an obligation to address this vitally important issue, one of the most prevalent yet underfunded problems in the world."
Avon’s other anniversary programs include Avon Voices, the first online singing talent search for women, and songwriting competition for women and men. Tony Award winner Lea Salonga is included among the distinguished panel of judges.
