Megastar Sharon Cuneta continues to be a pillar of the showbiz industry. Her recently concluded singing competition, Star Power, finished with great feedback from audiences, and now she's gearing up for The Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition. This actress, TV host, and singer has spent many successful years in the limelight, and while her career continues to prosper, for her, only one thing really matters: her family. Sharon is the wife of Sen. Francis Pangilinan and the mother of three daughters: KC, Frankie, and Miel. After raising KC--and now her other two children--what lessons on parenting does Sharon have to share with other mothers? Read on to find out.
1. DON'T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT WORKING.
Multitasking career moms are the norm nowadays, and Sharon believes you can be a great parent while still doing your job at work well. "Times are hard! It's not easy to balance work and family, but remember that quality matters more than quantity. It's the things that people wouldn't waste time to do--those are the things that matter the most."
2. LET YOUR KIDS MAKE THEIR OWN MISTAKES, AS LONG AS THEY LEARN FROM THEM.
Sharon considers herself a parent who's not too harsh or too lenient. She wants her children to make their own choices as much as possible, but that doesn't mean she won't look out for them. "Don't be so strict that you keep them from 'living' their lives," she advises. "Kapag nabubulagan sila, pukpukin mo (If they get blinded, hit them). But you can't push them to be like you."
3. WHEN YOU'RE A MOM TO OLDER KIDS, IT'S NORMAL TO WANT TO FEEL NEEDED ONCE IN A WHILE.
This is how Sharon feels when it comes to daughter KC Concepcion. Fortunately, her eldest daughter knows exactly how to make her feel better when she's having an off day. "The best messages from KC, even if she's always busy, are the ones that say, 'Mama, I miss you. I love you.' After all, even if she's 60 na and I'm 80, I'm still her mother!"
4. BE THERE FOR YOUR CHILDREN NO MATTER WHAT.
No matter how hard you try to fight it, your children will eventually grow up. While Sharon turns wistful at the thought, she says she'll be there for her daughters whenever they need her anyway. "All you want is for your kids to be happy. That's all," says Sharon.
5. TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT VALUES.
For Sharon, the best lessons she can teach second youngest daughter Frankie are to share with others and to be thankful of God's blessings. "It doesn't make you better than other people just because you come out on TV, or people know who your parents are, or not even if you have a nice room, good food, and nice toys."
