Way back then, most of you would probably turn down the idea of throwing a wedding without flowers. After all, bouquets and floral arrangements have been mainstays at nuptials for decades. But now that weddings are becoming more and more personal, and many couples are more willing to break certain wedding traditions, a flowerless nuptial doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

So why should you consider foregoing the gorgeous roses? There are many wedding details that are decored with fresh flowers, from the church aisle to the wedding tables, and that means the costs can add up pretty quick. In fact, opting for no flowers is one of the many ways couples cut down their wedding costs.

Worried that your nuptial might feel bare without the blooms? Here are five ways you can pull it off:

1. Embrace greenery...

Plants and foliage are so much cheaper than fresh flowers, but they aren't any less romantic; when used as the main decors, they create a warm atmosphere and add a charming, rustic feel to bare spaces.

Vines can serve as your table runner and wedding chair decor:

FN Tip: For the church aisle, opt for a white carpet instead of red to make your foliage stand out.

2. ...and complement it with wooden accents.

Don't forget to add some candles for extra drama!

3. Pick an outdoor venue!

You won't need to splurge on extravagant floral arrangements to dress up your venue when you're surrounded by a naturally gorgeous scenery.

4. Walk down the aisle with a leafy "bouquet."

A lush bouquet made up of various foliage and leaves would look just as romantic as a bouquet of roses. Although it lacks in color, the play of different textures is what will make it stand out.

5. Finally, hire a good stylist.

Truth be told, throwing a flowerless wedding will require a lot of creativity. As one bride who threw a backyard wedding previously shared with Female Network, hiring an event stylist was extremely helpful. She recounts: "We wanted a garden wedding with rustic touches—think reclaimed wood, burlap, wooden crates, delicate white flowers. Now that we think about it, hiring a professional who already had those materials in their inventory was the best option.

"For one, it saved us a lot of time and money from buying and scouring in who-knows-where for “rustic” materials, which we know we’ll never use again after the wedding."
