You can now purchase lotto tickets once more, as President Durterte lifted its suspension on July 30.
“Franchise holders and operators of lotto outlets may now resume with their operations. The lifting of the suspension of lotto operations takes effect immediately," said presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a report by GMA News Online. "As per the advice of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, the suspension of Lotto operations has been ordered lifted by the President.”
Operations of Small Town Lottery (STL), Keno, and Peryahan ng Bayan, however, remain suspended.
The President's July 27 announcement of the shutdown was said to be due to the "massive corruption" within the PCSO; he did not elaborate on the issue, but noted that he would reveal the names of those involved "in due time." The move was decried by many lotto operators who get their daily income from their franchises.
The PCSO, which runs lotto operations in the country, assures that it will continue its medical assistance program despite the suspension of its other games.
