As soon as you arrive at work, you feel something amiss. The office is eerily quiet. Phones are ringing, but nobody’s answering. Cubicles are empty, computers are unplugged, and even the water cooler is devoid of water. No, this isn’t an episode of The Walking Dead; everyone just happens to be on leave except you. There’s no need to panic, though. We’ll help you get through the day; just follow our tips below:
1. Have a notepad and pen ready.
Expect to take a lot, if not all, of the calls at the office. Make sure you have these materials right by the phone, so you'll be able to efficiently take down notes. A calendar and a calculator might also help.
2. Make a list.
Chances are, you have a lot of tasks that need to be attended to, so put things in order by making a to-do list. You can further categorize your tasks into several groups (urgent, pending, for follow-up, etc.).
3. Call a friend.
If you can’t go through one whole day without talking to anyone, call a friend. Spend a few minutes catching up on each other, as you delete junk mail from your office inbox. It’ll keep you from falling asleep on the job and enable you to do a bit of clearing up as well.
4. Reward yourself after work.
You’ve done a really good job of holding the fort, so now, you get to give yourself a treat. Whether it’s a massage, a sinful slice of chocolate cake, or a movie screening, we say go for it!
