If you're worried that you can't find a job because you haven't worked for years, maybe you'd want to take a chance in the field of public service. The Department of Labor and Employment has recently expanded its Government Internship Program (GIP) to individuals 31 years old and above, which was only initially offered to those who are 18 to 30 years old.
According to Department Order 204 A-19 released recently, those who can apply for the internship should have "no work experience or intermittent work experience... are unemployed due to [being] laid off or terminated due to closure of establishments, and...[are or will be] diplaced due to natural or manmade disasters."
The program is also offered to those who are:
- Victims of armed conflict;
- Rebel returnees;
- Persons with disabilities; and
- Indigenous peoples.
Requirements for application include: transcript of records for college students, or Form 137 for high school graduates, or Certificate of Graduation for tech-voc graduates. Certificate of Indigency from one's Barangay is optional.
A GIP beneficiary will receive an allowance "equivalent to 75% of the existing minimum wage, accident insurance coverage for one year with GSIS, and a Certificate of Completion issued by the DOLE Regional Office upon completion of the term."
