There's an increasing number of freelancers in the Philippines. People either need to take up a side hustle to make ends meet, or they want to quit following someone else's rules and be their own boss. But according to a survey published by Expert Market, the Philippines is actually one of the top 10 worst countries for freelancers.

Expert Market evaluated 57 countries based on eight different factors: cost of living, income taxes, access to credit, average internet speed, cost of a cup of coffee, public transpo, free Wi-Fi availability, and the ease of starting your own business.

Expert Market used all the data they gathered to come up with a "weighted average" used to give each country a total score.

Here are the best countries for freelancers:

1. Hong Kong

2. United States

3. South Korea

4. United Arab Emirates

5. United Kingdom

6. Spain

7. New Zealand

8. Estonia

9. Bulgaria

10. Czech Republic

And the worst:

1. Uruguay

2. Argentina

3. Israel

4. Philippines

5. Ecuador

6. Slovenia

7. Costa Rica

8. Ireland

9. Belgium

10. Peru
