Age
When selecting, don't just think of who would make the cutest addition--sometimes the cutest ones are just too young to do their tasks. Avoid choosing children who are too young and could have trouble walking down the aisle unassisted--some churches have rules against young entourage members who have to be carried down the aisle by an adult. In the same way, don't get kids who are already a bit older and could look out of place next to the rest of your little entourage.
Attitude
Is the child naturally timid? Or more prone to tantrums? Always think of who would be most comfortable and need the least assistance in playing the part. You want someone who's confident but who won't disrupt your solemn ceremony with unruly behavior.
Your connection with them
Lastly, think about the connection you share with your prospective entourage members. If possible, get children you are close to or who are familiar with you, like a younger cousin or godchild. It makes giving directions easier, plus you have a better idea of how they will behave on the actual day.
